'SUPERNATURAL'
Fascinated by supernatural, unexplainable facts and feelings, i started to do resaerch around the supernatural.
I’m intruiged by Kachina dolls, each time i see them, they charm me and the stories they represent are fabulous…
Kachina dolls are traditional, handcrafted dolls, made by the Hopi Indians in the southwest of the USA.
The dolls are used for rituals and education for youngsters to teach them about the stories of their ancesters.
Each Kachina doll represents a spirit in life.
The Kachinas, among the principal Hopi deities, are supernatural, antropomorphic beings inhabiting the water-world that underlies the earth.
The first Kachinas were visible beings but because the people did not treat them with consideration, they became invisible.
They are now represented by masked dancers.
This Kachina theme is obviously an inspiration for volumes, form, colour and prints.
Besides i tried to give the clothes a supernatural power by using a lot of strong “face” -graphics and mirrors reflecting the bad spirits…
Talisman-objects are used in prints and embroideries.
The eye, the hand, the key, the heart, a flying cock, clover four, the moon, a flower, a bird, a star, the number 7….
Using them freely, not relating to any particular religion or culture.
Pure supernatural protection 2005, power which we need in our comptemporary world, …even if you are not a “believer” !
The slogan: “protect personal space”, i used because i believe we have to keep on fighting for our personal freedom and rights !
