Walter Van Beirendonck
'Relics from the Future'
Spring-Summer 2006

For this collection, Walter Van Beirendonck has explored his
fascination for the discovery of Easter Island by Captain Cook.
It is especially the cross-pollination between the islanders and the
European crew that has inspired him. Though at first the two different
cultures influenced each other, after a while one completely absorbed
the other, resulting in the annihilation of the natives. Even today,
cultures have the tendency to take over other cultures.
A sad story as a starting point, but Walter Van Beirendonck transcends
this with his unique method of designing, using vibrant colours and
bold graphics, creating relics for and from the future.
